Day 27-Pontevedra to Caldes de Reis

Sept 10

‘It's my life, it's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life) My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said, "I did it my way"
I just wanna live while I'm alive
'Cause it's my life’ -

Headed out early with Christian .. our destination is Caldes de Reis. The lights of Pontevedra were reflecting off the river. The stillness of the early morning and the crisp air greeted us as we began the journey.

Todays journey would lead us out of the city and into the forest and countryside of the Galicia region. Overall a fairly short day of hiking to reach the destination of Caldas de Reis.

I’m now just 60km from Santiago de Compostela. Crazy how quickly this journey has gone.
Walking past a pilgrim memorial.
Stopping for my morning coffee and pastry.
The forest today is beautiful. It shaded the majority of the day. This really helped with the walk.
The view today as
the trail wound through small vineyards, forests with moss and ferns as well as small country farms.
Vineyards are abundant in this area.

Walking through small gardens and farms I came across many animals grazing on their owner’s property. One of them, a donkey was just so sweet. I gave him my apple I had saved for a snack. He seemed to love it.

Caldas de Reis is a rather small town that is known for its mineral hot springs. It’s a simple and quaint town overall and a nice stopping point for the day.

Upon arriving, we met up with Luca and got cleaned up from the walk and found ourselves a place to have dinner. We ran into some other pilgrims we have been seeing on the trails and invited them with us to dinner. Overall, it was an enjoyable night.

My thoughts: Only two days until I reach Santiago de Compostela and this amazing journey comes to an end. It’s bittersweet in a way. It’s exciting to reach my final destination, but there is something special walking the Camino. I’m grateful in so many ways for this opportunity to once again be on this journey. It truly is life changing.
